Join Kinkaid Civil Construction

Kinkaid Civil Construction (KCC) is a 100% employee-owned heavy civil contractor specializing in underground wet utilities, earthwork, grading, and roadway infrastructure.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Surveyor to support our growing Utah operations. This position will provide construction surveying, layout, staking, grade control, and field support for heavy civil projects throughout the Salt Lake City area.

The ideal candidate has strong hands‑on construction surveying experience and can independently support underground utility, earthwork, grading, and roadway projects while working closely with Superintendents, Foremen, Project Engineers, Project Managers, and field crews.

Position Summary

The Senior Surveyor is responsible for accurate construction layout and surveying throughout all phases of assigned projects. This position establishes and maintains survey control, performs field layout and staking, verifies grades and elevations, completes as-built surveys, and provides survey information needed by field crews.

The Senior Surveyor must be able to read and interpret civil construction plans and translate design information into accurate field layout. This is a hands‑on field position requiring strong technical surveying skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in an active heavy civil construction environment.

This position may also provide guidance and technical support to less‑experienced survey personnel.

Requirements

Perform construction layout and staking for underground utilities, earthwork, grading, roadway, and civil infrastructure projects.

Establish, verify, and maintain horizontal and vertical survey control.

Perform layout for water, sewer, storm drain, pipe alignments, structures, excavation limits, slopes, roadways, curb, and finished grades.

Calculate and verify coordinates, elevations, grades, slopes, offsets, alignments, and construction tolerances.

Read and interpret civil plans, profiles, cross‑sections, specifications, and survey information.

Perform grade checks during excavation, utility installation, backfill, grading, and roadway construction.

Perform topographic, existing‑condition, and as‑built surveys as required.

Maintain accurate field notes, survey records, control points, and project documentation.

Operate GPS/GNSS equipment, robotic total stations, electronic data collectors, levels, and other survey equipment.

Assist with GPS machine‑control setup, verification, and troubleshooting when needed.

Identify discrepancies between plans, survey information, and actual field conditions and communicate concerns to project leadership.

Coordinate daily survey needs and priorities with Superintendents, Foremen, Project Engineers, and Project Managers.

Provide field crews with accurate and understandable staking, layout, and grade information.

Assist with field measurements, quantity verification, and construction calculations when needed.

Maintain, calibrate, and protect survey equipment and established project control.

Provide technical guidance to Surveyors, Assistant Surveyors, and other field personnel when appropriate.

Follow KCC safety policies and maintain awareness of excavation, heavy equipment, traffic, underground utilities, and changing site conditions.

Perform additional survey and field‑related duties as assigned.
