Job SummaryThe Graduate Assistant will work closely with the Internal Marketing and Communications Manager to produce content for a variety of communication channels, primarily writing articles for the division’s newsletters, which are shared division‑wide and campus‑wide. The role also assists in developing messaging for university leadership and collaborative campus partners, and may support social media, website updates, videography, photography, and graphic design.
It may also assist with event support, scheduling, meeting coordination, and other administrative tasks as needed.
- Work 20 hours per week throughout the academic year with consistent fixed office hours, including occasional evening and weekends.
- Attend regular staff meetings.
- Adhere to all university and departmental policies.
- Represent Student Affairs professionally.
- May adjust working hours to meet organizational needs.
- Graduate assistant stipend of $12,000 for the spring semester.
- Graduate assistants enrolled in the Education, Leadership, and Policy (ELP) Program may also be eligible for Tuition Benefits.
- Write, edit, and proofread articles for division‑wide and campus‑wide newsletters.
- Develop clear, engaging messaging for university leadership and campus partners.
- Produce content for various channels (social media, websites, videos, photography).
- Support marketing and communication projects highlighting Student Affairs initiatives.
- Manage and update a content calendar.
- Conduct interviews with subject matter experts, students, and staff.
- Collaborate across Student Affairs to ensure accurate, timely messaging.
- Assist with event support, including day‑of logistics and communication needs.
- Provide administrative support such as organizing meetings, preparing materials.
- Ensure content reflects the division’s mission of supporting student well‑being and success.
- Hands‑on experience in higher education marketing and communications.
- Strengthened writing and storytelling skills across multiple formats.
- Experience collaborating with leadership and campus partners.
- Project management skills, including content calendar planning and deadline management.
- Exposure to multimedia content creation (videography, photography, graphic design).
- University of Utah graduate student pursuing a master’s, Ed.D, Ph.D, or related.
- Previous marketing and communications experience encouraged.
- Excellent writing and editing skills, tailoring messages for different audiences.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (interviewing, collaboration).
- Ability to work independently with little supervision and collaborate in a team.
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud, Asana, Canva, Sprout Social, Microsoft Office.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Experience in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations, or related field.
- Experience writing articles or stories for broad or diverse audiences.
- Familiarity with content creation for social media, websites, newsletters.
- Experience with Canva or Adobe Creative Cloud.
- Basic understanding of photography and videography.
- Understanding of Student Affairs or prior higher education experience.
