Day

to Day

In this role, you’ll work on the design of a variety of sustainable transportation and non-motorized recreation projects. Principal tasks include establishing design direction and reviewing working drawings for multiple projects.

You should be able to effectively manage projects of different scales. Including high-quality, accurate and complete design documents, reports, and analyses. For streetscape, urban design, trail design, and other placemaking projects, you should lead the development of cost estimates and design details for construction documents. Facilitating public engagement and communicating graphically is also expected. Associate landscape designers at Alta are expected to be proficient in CAD and other rendering software.

Associates may contribute to some business development and marketing operations and will be expected to be able to successfully manage projects and ensure successful project delivery.

Qualifications Required

This position requires a combination of skills, experience and education including, but not limited to

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, or related field of study.
  • 10 or more years of experience in a consulting environment or public entity; including three (3) or more years as a Project Manager; three (3) or more years managing staff.
  • Experience in the field of active, non-motorized transportation.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Complete Streets and trail design principles and a general understanding of project management principles, methods and techniques.
  • In-depth knowledge of NACTO, MUTCD, ADA, and relevant state DOT design requirements.
  • In-depth knowledge of the principles of site grading and general construction techniques.
  • Ability to create photo‑renderings, concept sketches, construction drawings and other similar materials for use in proposals and project deliverables.
  • Ability to effectively read, understand and utilize technical drawings, maps, and other similar documents.
  • Ability to guide staff members and manage internal team expectations.
  • Exhibits strong initiative and ability to capitalize on opportunities to enhance Alta’s position in the marketplace.
