Job Summary

The Student Parent Support Center at the University of Utah provides information, support, and family resources for students, faculty, staff, and patients. Programs are NAEYC accredited and serve children birth to six years. In collaboration with the South Jordan Health Center Program (SJHC), the center seeks qualified childcare providers for its drop‑in childcare facility. Multiple openings and continuous hiring are available.

Free public transportation pass is included with employment.

Responsibilities
  • Help children experience success in physical, social and intellectual tasks.
  • Reinforce and broaden concepts as presented by the teacher.
  • Observe behavior, document, and may offer suggestions to the teacher.
  • Assume full responsibility for the group during short periods when the teacher is engaged elsewhere.
  • Assist teacher in activities and tasks, maintaining an orderly and clean environment for children.
  • Meet with teacher and staff to assist in planning.
  • Plan morning or afternoon small group activity with Head Teacher assistance.
  • Supervise playground unless specified indoors.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Entry‑level position; training will be provided.
  • Interest in child development and guidance; willingness to take direction from assigned teacher.
  • Obtain food handlers permit, TB test, BCI background check, and first aid training within the first 60 days of hire.
  • Demonstrated human relation and effective human relations skills.
Department‑Specific Qualifications
  • At least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to lift and carry small children in arms for short distances (10‑50 lbs).
  • Meet physical characteristics (with or without aids):
    • Fine and gross motor skills.
    • Vision sufficient to read printed material.
    • Hearing sufficient for normal conversation.
    • Ability to speak in an understandable voice with sufficient volume.
  • Ability to sit on the floor and move on hands and knees for long periods.
  • Ability to walk and stand for long periods.
  • Effective communication with children, parents/guardians, both verbally and in writing.
  • Complete written assessments about each child shared with parents/guardians.
  • General office duties, computer systems, and technology skills.
  • Availability for in‑person meetings with parents/guardians when requested.
  • Effective communication with management/dispatch in case of emergency.
