Job DescriptionAfter School Peer Mentors- ASP Temporary Hires
Get to Know UsSalt Lake County Youth Services provides support to schools and families through After school Programs, Summer Programming, and Parental Support. Our programs are offered on site at schools located in Kearns, Magna, West Valley City, and Millcreek. Our goals are to keep kids safe, provide healthy adult role models, teach new skills, and give youth confidence in themselves through a variety of enrichment activities.
These goals are achieved by working closely with school administration and ensuring our staff are active participants in helping to make positive changes within the communities served.
- Be a peer mentor to youth using Positive Behavior Support techniques while assisting with guiding groups of up to 15 youth.
- Assist with daily activities based on school day support and enrichment focus areas including STEM, Arts and Culture, Character Education, Healthy Living, and College and Career Exploration resulting in the enrichment of the youth's education and daily life activities.
Must be at least 15 years of age.
What We OfferOpportunity to develop skills in youth mentorship, facilitating activities, and providing safe and healthy environments. You will gain invaluable work experience in youth development, conflict resolution, engaging appropriately with youth, youth services programs and local resources, and programming and quality assurance.
Pay- Tier 1 = No experience ($12.00/hr)
- Tier 2 = Potential increase after 30 days upon completion of up to 10 hours of required training including:
Child Abuse Prevention, CPR/First Aid, Workplace Ethics, Sexual Harassment Prevention, and Site-Specific Trainings. ($13.00/hr) - Tier 3 = 1+ year experience and upon completion of required trainings / 3 or above on Temp PDP ($14.00/hr)
Varies based on location following a school year calendar. School year are afternoons Monday-Thursday for 3+ hours, plus planning, training and prep time for about 15-20 hours a week. Monday -- Thursday 2:00pm -- 5:30pm and Fridays 12:00pm -- 4:00pm, hours may vary depending upon program.
Work LocationVarious schools in Kearns, Magna, and West Valley City.
