Job Summary

The Office of Admissions is a dynamic and growing organization committed to assisting future students learn about and enroll atthe University of Utah. We are seeking a personable, energetic andpoised Admissions Counselor to join our team to help us expand our recruitment reach in- and out-of-state, continue to increase ournew student enrollment, and shape the entering class. Reporting to the Associate Director for Outreach, Access, and Community Engagement, this Admissions Counselor position will be an integral part of our team responsible for recruiting and enrolling new undergraduate students particularly from traditionally underrepresented populations in higher education and the Universityof Utah.

This position will serve as the primary contact to prospective students, their families, secondary school counselors,and influences in the college decision making process. The successful candidate will develop an in-depth understanding of the admissions practices, institutional policies, and program offering sin order to effectively recruit students. This is a campus-based position.

This is a campus-based position, and the admissions counselor willwork alongside the recruitment team in the Emma Eccles Jones Welcome Center in the Gardner Commons building, a state-of-the-art building located in the heart of our campus.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, report and assess a domestic first-year and transfer student recruitment plan that helps the University of Utah achieve its enrollment goals. The recruitment plan will include butis not limited to: high school visits, two-year college visits,college fairs, information sessions, receptions, and meetings with secondary school and independent counselors, prospective students,families, and community-based organizations
  • Build personalized relationships with prospective students,families, school counselors, alumni, and other constituents insupport of the recruitment goals for the territory
  • Assist the Associate Director for Outreach, Access, and Community Engagement in developing, implementing, and assessing astrategic recruitment plan focused on the enrollment of traditionally unrepresented students
  • Assist with all off-campus admission events in all areas of regional responsibility in collaboration with the campus experienceteam
  • Read and evaluate all domestic applications in regional territory
  • Significant travel up to 4 - 6 weeks annually within the territory between early September to November and January to May is required
  • Attend community and access programs access programs which maytake place in the evening and on weekends, and fall outside ofregular office hours
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree and 2-4 years' related experience, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two yearsof related work experience).

Preferences

Preference will be given to candidates who possess excellent customer service skills, demonstrate proficient oral and written communication skills, and have adept interpersonal skills;demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully across a range of perspectives and experiences; possess the abilityto convey complex information clearly to varied audiences, as wellas speak in front of large groups; demonstrate problem-solving andtime-management skills; have a valid driver's license;

possess an understanding of higher education, specifically the value of public higher education.

Preference will also be given to those who have admissions/recruitment experience at a regionally accredited university. The select candidate will be willing to work some evenings and weekends and travel overnight in-and out-of-state approximately 4-6 weeks annually. An admissions counselor frequently addresses sensitive situations regarding admissions and student recruitment and will often act as a mediator. A major taskfor this position is to understand the needs of variousconstituents and determine what actions will best meet those needs.
