Brown and Caldwell's (BC) Salt Lake City office has an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineer/Resident Engineer with experience in construction of complex water and wastewater infrastructure and facilities. The candidate will work closely with the project team, including the Owner, BC CM group, subconsultants, multiple contractors, and design engineers, to ensure successful project delivery. We seek a self-motivated individual who enjoys diverse engineering and construction consulting opportunities.

Positive interaction with clients and contractors, along with a solid understanding of construction, are essential for success.

Work location will be in the Salt Lake City area, with support for other local and regional clients.

Description:

  • Construction Management and Oversight: Oversee construction and onsite Resident Engineering for water, wastewater, and infrastructure projects. Conduct onsite inspections to ensure compliance with plans, specs, standards, codes, and permits, maintaining quality standards.
  • Project Coordination and Collaboration: Foster effective partnerships with all stakeholders. Collaborate with design and construction managers, Resident Engineer, and contractors to resolve issues. Obtain daily updates and drive resolutions.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Review design and bidding documents for completeness and constructability. Prepare project documentation, reports, change orders, and updates.
  • Meetings and Reviews: Attend pre-construction meetings, review project schedules, and monitor construction progress, responding to submittals and RFIs.
  • Problem Solving and Compliance: Investigate issues, ensure safety compliance, review schedules, and maintain project records for close-out.
  • Commissioning and Testing: Lead and assist in commissioning, testing, and start-up activities.
  • Mentorship and Supervision: Mentor less experienced staff, proactively address issues, and coordinate field problem-solving with clients, consultants, and contractors.

    Skills and Experience:
    • BSc in Civil, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
    • Minimum 6 years of relevant experience in municipal infrastructure, water, and wastewater facilities
    • Strong knowledge of civil, structural, architectural, and mechanical construction practices, including documentation, specs, and codes
    • Ability to provide design consultation, decision-making, and problem-solving
    • Understanding of construction management processes and rules
    • Experience with QA/QC, cost estimates, change orders, and claims review
    • Knowledge of OSHA 1910 standards
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Valid driver's license and good driving record
    • Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and construction management software like Primavera P6, eBuilder, MS Project
    • Ability to perform site inspections, work in extreme temperatures, and wear safety gear
    • Physical ability to walk, climb, lift objects up to 50 lbs

    Salary Range: $88,000 - $122,000, based on location, skills, experience, and education. This range may be adjusted in the future.
