Your OpportunityThe Grid Integration Specialist will act as a subject‑matter expert within the Policy & Regulatory team, delivering market research, regulatory knowledge, and comprehensive understanding of North American interconnection requirements and grid integration processes. The role supports energy clients by focusing on independent power producers, large load customers, utilities, public utility commissions, FERC, and industrial markets.
YourKey Responsibilities
- Assist the Policy & Regulatory Practice Leader and the MTC team in implementing strategic direction and portfolio value propositions across North America.
- Support proposal development and pursuit of client opportunities requiring premium‑rate advisory consulting services.
- Ensure a consistent high‑value, premium client experience from initial bid through project closeout.
- Lead execution of project work or serve as a subject‑matter expert on grid interconnection advisory services and large generator/load interconnection procedures for U.S. and Canadian utilities.
- Provide policy interpretation and regulatory support for utility, industrial, and water sector clients.
- Advise on regulatory decisions, technology permissibility, market rules, and project development options for energy clients.
- Conduct benchmarking and research‑based advisory services through publicly accessible regulator databases.
- Support the expansion strategy within the MTC business across energy, water, and industrial sectors.
- Maintain awareness of industry policy, regulatory developments, and competitive activity to align service offerings with market needs.
- Collaborate on business development, outreach, and expansion strategies to drive growth.
- Lead compliance with Stantec’s Project Delivery protocols and serve as an account manager/ team member for key accounts.
- Engage with marketing for campaign support and represent the group at industry conferences and events.
- Direct experience leading utility interconnection application projects from either the utility or interconnection customer perspective.
- Proficiency in policy and regulatory analysis with assessment of policy drivers and impacts on project development.
- Detailed understanding of the electrical utility industry and operations of natural gas, heavy industrial, or water sector organizations.
- Experience producing regulatory‑grade documents that withstand scrutiny from senior executives and regulatory agencies.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and team collaboration skills, with the ability to build trust and consensus.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a high‑pace global consultancy while delivering exceptional value and quality.
- Minimum of 7 years of energy industry experience related to leading projects with utilities, regulatory agencies, and/or project developers.
- Relevant degree in business, economics, or engineering.
- History of leading interconnection applications through utility and regulatory processing, ensuring completeness and compliance.
- Direct familiarity with the Large Generating Interconnection Procedures (LGIP) in the U.S. and/or customer interconnection requirements across multiple Canadian jurisdictions.
