Job DescriptionWSP is seeking an Assistant Vice President, Bridge Engineer to join our transportation team in Salt Lake City (South Jordan), Utah
. You will provide subject‑matter technical support and leadership for asset management, program management, rehabilitation, and new design projects for the public sector. Responsibilities include research, design, concept development, planning, and construction support for load‑bearing structures such as bridges.
- Assist in the design and management of transportation projects and act as a design lead.
- Lead mid‑level professional engineers, EITs, and CADD technicians.
- Apply high‑level structural and civil engineering techniques to improve infrastructure projects.
- Plan, organize, and supervise engineering activities on bridge projects.
- Develop construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Coordinate from project inception to completion in design, construction, and rehabilitation.
- Provide innovative bridge design solutions for highways, county roads, and city streets.
- Lead larger‑scale structural engineering projects, manage budgets and subcontractors.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- 10+ years of post‑education experience with a focus on structural bridge design.
- Experience managing engineering activities on structure‑centered transportation projects.
- Professional Engineering license required.
- Extensive knowledge of seismic modeling, assessment, and bridge design.
- Proficiency with structural engineering principles, design/build, and project work‑related issues.
- Knowledge of other technical disciplines such as track, highway, drainage, geotechnical, and hydraulics.
- Experience in transportation infrastructure planning, design, and program management.
- Strong knowledge of relevant structural codes, regulations, compliance practices.
- Proficient with technical writing, office automation, design software (Bentley, etc.).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- High self‑leadership, ability to work independently, and maintain QA/QC.
- Experience with critical reviews, technical deliverables, and complex problem solving.
- Ability to travel as required.
- Experience with Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT).
