Commissioning Manager - Mission Critical

Join Big-D Construction as a Commissioning Manager for mission critical projects. This opportunity is for experienced professionals who will lead the commissioning process on large, highly technical construction projects.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement commissioning plans, schedules, and procedures with commissioning agents, user groups, subcontractors, and construction team members.
  • Coordinate with design and construction teams to integrate commissioning activities into the master project schedule.
  • Manage the commissioning process for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, building controls, and other critical systems.
  • Oversee pre‑functional and functional testing of equipment and systems to verify proper installation and functionality.
  • Document commissioning activities, test results, and equipment certifications.
  • Collaborate with user groups to ensure a smooth transition from construction to operation.
  • Provide solution‑oriented troubleshooting and schedule/facilitate factory witness testing.
  • Coordinate and verify site acceptance verifications and ensure all testing L1‑L5 is properly performed and documented.
  • Work with manufacturers, subcontractors, vendors, and customers for equipment energizations and start‑ups.
  • Prepare and manage materials needed for the commissioning process.
  • Write and track RFIs, document best practices and procedures, and submit change orders.
  • Manage commissioning teams for each scope (mechanical, electrical, controls, and CxA).
  • Develop comprehensive commissioning schedules and prepare for recovery plans.
  • Hold preparation meetings, safety briefings, and commissioning coordination meetings.
  • Review and approve testing scripts with CxA/customer, ensuring feasibility with subcontractors.
  • Participate in job closeout processes and enforce safety/OHS standards.
  • Build and maintain detailed commissioning schedules with proactive mitigation of constraints.
  • Communicate unresolved constraints and impacts in a timely manner.
  • Ensure up‑to‑date project documents are supplied to subcontractors and CxA.
  • Assist with redlining and updating drawings as commissioning progresses.
  • Provide technical and procedural commissioning direction to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prioritize equipment issues and drive resolution to minimize process impact.
  • Apply LOTO and energy management practices throughout testing evolutions.
Qualifications
  • Multiple years of experience in commissioning management.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, fire protection, and building controls systems.
  • Strong understanding of industry standards and guidelines related to construction and commissioning.
  • Experience with commissioning tools, equipment, and software applications.
  • Effective project management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with cross‑functional teams and stakeholders including clients, user groups, and commissioning agents.
  • Proficient use of all Microsoft Office programs.
Physical Requirements
  • Regularly required to sit, talk and/or hear.
  • Regularly required to work with a computer.
  • Frequently required to use hands to manipulate, handle or feel.
  • Regularly required to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch and/or crawl.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, the ability to adjust focus, and color vision.
Work Environment
  • The noise level in the office work environment is usually quiet to moderate; in the field it may be moderate to loud.
  • May be required to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
  • Required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to safety hazards while on a jobsite.
