In this role, you will be responsible for assigned project designs, coordination, client communications, and associated construction administration. You will supervise the staff assigned to the projects, insure staff utilization, oversee the work performed by the assigned staff, manage the mechanical project budget/time, and ensure the design is completed within the project design schedule.

Responsibilities
  • Application of Knowledge of Building Systems (Conceptual Design)
    • Ensure understanding and compliance with owner’s building program requirements and facility or corporate standards related to mechanical and plumbing systems design
    • Confirm and review applicable codes and standards such as the International Building Code (Mechanical, Plumbing, Gas, Fire), ASHRAE Standards (90.1, 62, and 15), and NFPA
    • Establish and document the mechanical and plumbing systems basis of design and provide clarifications, qualifications, and design assumptions
    • Work with the building/facility owner to ensure cost-effective systems/products are utilized
    • Work with building owner and construction management team to validate construction cost and provide value engineering options as necessary
    • Know when to obtain support from a Lead Mechanical Engineer or Senior Mechanical Engineer
  • Design
    • Assist in establishing the building envelope thermal insulation values for energy code compliance and heating/cooling load calculations
    • Perform and document engineering calculations for selecting code-compliant systems and equipment
    • Perform systems and equipment selections
    • Perform layout and sizing of systems and equipment
    • Draft or oversee drafting of mechanical and plumbing systems with appropriate drawing detail
    • Schedule mechanical and plumbing equipment with appropriate accessories
    • Develop control drawings (schematics, points list, sequence of operation)
    • Ensure complete and accurate specifications
  • Construction Support
    • Assist with problem-solving for field oversights
    • Shop drawing/submittal review
    • Conduct field inspections and prepare reports with the Group Lead or Senior Mechanical Engineer
    • Assist with photograph reviews
    • Assist with RFIs
  • Project Management
    • Oversee the work performed by the assigned staff
  • Planning, Scheduling, and Profitability
    • Monitor what is included in the design package (pricing documents, SD, DD, CD)
    • Work with projects Lead Mechanical Engineer to meet project schedule and provide complete documents for each submission
    • Design projects within the provided design budget and track additional hours if the scope expands
  • Professional Development
    • Maintain required licensing CEU
    • Pursue in-house/out-of-house training to maintain or improve design skills
  • Leadership
    • Manage assigned staff on the projects
  • Travel
    • Up to 20% annually
Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university
  • 5 to 8 years of relevant experience
Specific Knowledge, Skills, License, Certifications
  • Licensed Professional Engineer - Mechanical Engineering
  • Knowledge of Building Systems HVAC and/or Plumbing Design
  • Experienced utilizing Revit for 3D design

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, this position requires ordinary ambulatory skills to visit other locations; the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift/carry/move light to medium weights (10-50 pounds). Requires good hand-eye coordination and dexterity, and the ability to read, operate equipment, and use a keyboard. The associate may sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
