OverviewThe Controls Technologist (CT) I is a technical expert who supports specific project delivery or technology development efforts. A CT I has a very high level of experience and expertise in the field. Areas of subject matter expertise may include one or more of the following: controls design, controls installation, retro‑commissioning, metering solutions, HVAC systems optimization, and data analytics.
Responsibilities- Identify gaps in project execution and create standards and processes to solve the issues.
- Support or develop new tools supporting project execution.
- Problem solve systems integration and operation of controls systems.
- Retro‑commissioning.
- Support site surveys to determine existing facility conditions.
- Support meetings with owners, clients, and sub‑contractors as required. Prepare meeting notes and site observation reports.
- Complete energy calculations to estimate project savings.
- Develop and implement programming modifications for the building automation controls.
- Complete minimum airflow calculations per the applicable code (ASHRAE 170, 62.1, or other state/local codes).
- Complete project closeout documentation.
- Design and pre‑construction work.
- Lead site surveys to determine the requirements to complete the scope of work.
- Complete design documents, including drawings and specifications, for building automation controls upgrades.
- Review submittals for conformance to design documents.
- Complete QA/QC of design documents.
- Construction tasks including preparing programming instructions for Control Technicians, Controls Analysts, or sub‑contractors.
- Complete site visits to review progress, quality of installation, and identify deficiencies.
- Troubleshoot controls programming and setup problems.
- Provide programming support to the implementation team to complete the project requirements.
- Develop and specify energy metering solutions.
- Troubleshoot installations.
- Systems optimization.
- Advanced programming.
- Hardware and software installation.
- Perform the assigned duties with minimal supervision, while working in a team problem‑solving environment.
- Complete technical reports or related documents.
- Develop training material for both internal and external clients and provide on‑site training.
- Inform significant business decisions while successfully executing the project.
Required Qualifications
- 5‑7 years of experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Detail oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast‑paced environment.
- Well versed in the industry and the company’s competitors.
- Ability to perform duties outside of scope of work when necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering field.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license.
- Building automation controls programming experience. Preferred controls include Siemens, JCI, Honeywell, Trane, Struxureware, and Tridium.
- Building automation controls design experience.
- CEM certification.
- Healthcare or higher education project experience.
- Proficient in AutoCAD.
