Handling tax in such a large, sophisticated organization takes more than just a technical understanding of current tax practices. As a State Income Tax Manager, we'll look to you to apply your knowledge to a wide range of tax areas and processes, devising strategic outcomes to some very complex issues.
The opportunity
The State Income Tax Manager will provide a variety of tax consulting, planning, and compliance services to a diverse range of clients operating in various sectors. Our Tax practice is constantly evolving, and it's here you'll find everything you need to grow as we do.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Oversee state-level tax projects, including compliance and related research.
- Lead and direct a team in managing state tax compliance and advisory services for clients.
Skills And Attributes For Success
- Managing and executing state income tax compliance responsibilities.
- Monitoring and analyzing changes in state income tax laws and regulations and determining impact to the client.
- Providing complex tax review, research, planning, and consulting services to diverse clients, including federal and state tax regulations.
- Leading or assisting with various tax planning, research, and special projects.
- Preparing and reviewing quarterly and annual state income tax provisions.
- Modeling various state income tax benefits and consequences using Microsoft Excel, Power
BI, or Alteryx. - Writing tax technical memos to succinctly articulate issues, conclusions, and the analysis with respect to various state tax issues.
- Developing and working with staff and seniors to create a team environment.
To qualify for the role, you must have
- A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline and approximately six years of related work experience.
- High level of proficiency in state income tax code, regulations, and procedures.
- A proven record of excellence in a professional services or tax organization.
- Technical writing and research experience in a tax context.
- The ability to analyze client data, technical guidance, and make recommendations to engagement teams.
- The ability to prioritize when working on multiple complex projects.
- Strong influencing skills, and the confidence to question existing processes.
- Willingness to travel as needed and working in a balanced hybrid environment.
Ideally, you'll also have
- An achieved or partially achieved CPA qualification, certification as a member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation, or possess the ability to sit for or be a member of a state bar.
