Handling multi‑state sales/use tax recovery projects for large, sophisticated organizations takes more than just a technical understanding of current sales and use tax rules. As a Sales and Use Tax Senior, assigned to EY’s Sales and Use Tax Lookback Review Center of Excellence (COE), you’ll build and apply your knowledge on a wide range of sales and use tax recovery projects for clients in multiple industries.
OpportunityOur Sales and Use Tax Lookback Review COE is a national team that leads large multi‑state, sales and use tax recovery projects for EY’s largest clients. It’s a place to develop as a multi‑state sales and use tax practitioner, taking on new skills and responsibilities and making the most of dedicated mentors and training programs.
Key ResponsibilitiesThere’s no average day for a Sales and Use Tax Senior in the COE – you’ll spend your time on a diverse array of projects. Clients will turn to you for up‑to‑the‑minute tax advice. You’ll work in a highly collaborative culture, sharing information with colleagues.
Skills and Attributes for Success- Research client business operations and build lasting relationships.
- Identify applicable sales and use tax exemptions and exclusions.
- Identify potential over payment opportunities or risks and communicate them to clients.
- Monitor current tax law changes to maintain credibility.
- Develop clear, intelligent plans for sales and use tax recoveries.
- Prepare and defend sales and use tax refund claims.
- Participate in a motivated team of professionals.
- Supervise a motivated team, ensuring they have skills, knowledge, and opportunities to reach full potential.
- A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline.
- Professional knowledge in sales and use tax processes, concepts, and tools.
- A proven record of excellence in a professional services or tax organization.
- Technical writing and research experience in a tax context.
- The ability to prioritize when working on multiple complex projects.
- Strong influencing skills and confidence to question existing processes.
- Willingness to travel as needed, and working in a balanced hybrid environment.
- Achieved or partially achieved CPA qualification, or certification as a member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation, CMI designation, or ability to sit for a state bar.
