Myriad Genetics is seeking a Histotechnologist to support precision medicine diagnostics in Salt Lake City, UT.
OverviewThe Histotechnologist will be responsible for various techniques involved in the preparation of tissue specimens for examination by the pathologist and subsequent molecular genetic testing. Typical duties include sample accessioning, re‑embedding, microtomy, hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining, immunohistochemical (IHC) staining, macrodissection of tumor tissue, and digital pathology. They will also receive training as part of the Histotechnology OTJ training program, contribute to quality control, and maintain laboratory equipment.

- Macrodissection of tumor tissue
- Digital pathology
- Comply with laboratory's technical, administrative, safety policies and procedures.
- Participate in the laboratory’s quality assurance plan and maintain quality control and preventive maintenance documentation.
- Document corrections and corrective actions when test systems are outside acceptable limits.
- Investigate and resolve problems that affect test performance or results reporting.
- Perform proficiency testing using routine sample procedures.
- Complete training and competency assessments required by department and laboratory programs.
- Work under supervision where competency has not been approved.
- Engage in continuing education per laboratory standards.
- Participate in departmental and cross‑functional teams for problem resolution or project implementation.
- Serve as a trainer on technical processes within the group.
- Board Certified Histotechnologist (HTL) by a national certification agency, such as the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
- Doctoral, master’s, or bachelor’s degree in chemical, biological, or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology.
- Demonstrated potential for technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration, and independent thinking.
- Ability to analyze moderate‑scope problems requiring review of identifiable factors.
- Judgment to determine appropriate action within defined procedures and practices.
Lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds consistently. Requires stationary positioning, moving, operating, ascending/descending, communicating, observing, reaching, and repetitive motion. Use of equipment and tools necessary to perform essential job functions. Exposure to fumes, dust, extreme temperatures, wet or humid conditions, noise, vibration, mists or gases, mechanical, chemical, electrical, and radiant energy hazards. OSHA Category I duties routinely expose the employee to blood, body fluid, and tissue.
