Overview

Clinical Data Analyst role at ARUP Laboratories. This position requires analysis of clinical and operational data to support data-driven decision making. The incumbent will perform complex data analyses on large datasets and develop and maintain solutions to provide accurate, complete, and timely information to technical operations leadership.

Primary Purpose

Responsible for the analysis of clinical and operational data to support data-driven decision making. Performs complex data analyses on large data files that contain clinical and/or operational data. Designs, develops, implements, and maintains solutions for providing accurate, complete, and timely information to technical operations leadership resulting in improved efficiency and effectiveness. Demonstrates proficiency in information capture, data mining, data aggregation, analysis, visualization, and reporting.

Independently interprets results using a variety of techniques, ranging from simple data aggregation to complex data mining and statistical analysis.

Essential Functions
  • Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates the clinical and operational information needs of stakeholders.
  • Queries and analyzes clinical and operational data to glean meaningful insights.
  • Ensures production of meaningful analytic reports, dashboards, and visualizations based on stakeholder needs.
  • Develops, collaborates on, maintains, validates, documents, and supports digital solutions using:
    Relational databases in Microsoft SQL Server; ETL processes with SSIS;
    Tableau; VBA, Python, or other programming languages;
    Statistical tools such as JMP, R, or Anaconda.
  • Oversees the quality and consistency of data reporting and analysis.
  • Shares knowledge in data analysis methods, visualization, and presentation.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders including technical operations management, medical directors, pathologists, R&D, and IT.
  • Acts to advance software knowledge, data manipulation skills, and understanding of analysis and statistical techniques.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Physical and Other Requirements
  • Stooping: bending forward at the waist.
  • Reaching: extending hands and arms in various directions.
  • Mobility: occasional movement between work sites and within the office.
  • Communication: frequent interaction with others.
  • PPE: biohazard laboratory environment requiring PPE per CDC/OSHA and company policies.
  • Arup policies and procedures: comply with all ARUP Policies and Procedures.
  • Sedentary work: ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally.
  • Vision: close, far, and peripheral visual acuity.
  • Color vision and fine motor control as required for tasks such as typing and handling.
Qualifications

Education

  • Required:

    Bachelor's Degree or better in Computer Information Systems or related field
  • Required:

    Bachelor's Degree or better in Medical Laboratory Sciences or related field
  • Preferred:
    Master's Degree or better in Medical Laboratory Sciences or related field

Experience

  • Required:

    Bachelor’s degree in health information management, medical laboratory science, business, or related field
  • Required:

    Two (2) years of experience in data analysis, visualization, and reporting
  • Required:

    One (1) year of experience in healthcare
  • Required:

    Demonstrated experience in using statistics to solve business problems
  • Required:

    Experience with Excel, Tableau, Power BI, SSRS, VBA, Python, R, and SQL
  • Preferred:
    Master’s degree in health information management, medical laboratory science, business, or related field
  • Preferred:
    Advanced knowledge of statistics and data visualization
