PhD, Health Services Research – Associate Professor or Professor
The Department of Surgery at the University of Utah is seeking a senior-level PhD faculty member to join our Health Services Research (HSR) Section. This position is open to candidates at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. Rank dependent upon qualifications. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in health services research and a history of sustained external funding, with a preference for NIH funding (e.g. R01).
The position will be supported at 50% FTE with hard, departmental level funding. The remainder of the salary will be expected to be obtained through external funding. 50% of time will be dedicated to providing senior leadership within the HSR Section and mentorship of junior and mid-career faculty in the area of HSR/Outcomes.
Position Responsibilities- Health Services Research: Investigate the organization, delivery, and financing of health care services to improve patient outcomes and health care efficiency.
- Health Outcomes Research: Study the end results of healthcare practices and interventions, focusing on patient-centered outcomes.
- Comparative Effectiveness Research: Compare the benefits and harms of different healthcare interventions to determine the most effective approaches for specific patient populations.
- Implementation Science: Study methods to promote the integration of research findings and evidence-based practices into routine healthcare settings to improve the quality and effectiveness of care.
Senior Researcher:
- Proven ability to advance the science of health services research.
- Evidence of a successful research program, including a history of multiple funded R01 grants or equivalent.
Expertise in Health Services Research:
- Experience working with large health and demographic datasets.
- Strong understanding of data systems and data linkage.
Dedicated Educator and Mentor:
- Commitment to mentoring junior faculty as well as pre- and post-doctoral trainees.
- Provide guidance and support to trainees in developing their research skills, writing grant proposals, and publishing their findings.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive research environment that encourages the professional growth and development of all team members.
- Develop and lead training programs, workshops, and seminars to enhance the research capabilities of trainees and junior faculty.
Demonstrated Leadership Ability:
- Track record of building successful interdisciplinary teams.
- Ability to communicate effectively and obtain the committed support of a wide range of stakeholders.
