Job Overview

Under the direction of the Health and Wellness Program Manager, the Senior Mental Health Specialist is responsible for addressing mental health focused service provision for newly arrived refugees resettled by the IRC UT office including: implementing mental health screenings and referrals to individual treatment for newly resettled refugees, coordinating intakes to treatment and follow ups to care, consistent care coordination between partner agencies and clients, addressing severe mental health and community mental and emotional wellbeing needs, facilitating staffing meetings with mental health providers and acting as the primary reference point within the IRC office for mental health related activities and concerns.

This effort will center on the implementation of the Refugee Health Screener-15 (RHS-15), engaging in psycho-educational support, and facilitating group interventions.

Major Responsibilities
  • Coordinate mental health intakes and follow up for all refugees referred to mental health treatment from health screenings
  • Provide regular reporting to Utah Department Health on initial mental health intakes referred from the health screening, and monthly reports of direct service activities
  • Coordinate transportation support and bus orientations for clients to and from care providers and groups
  • Conduct RHS-15 screening at six months and mental health check in at one year post arrival;
    Coordinate referrals to care as needed
  • Conduct monthly interagency staffing meetings and serve as liaison between mental health service providers and resettlement staff
  • Conduct trauma informed care, self-care, and mental health first aid-focused trainings with staff and support staff in identifying and supporting client needs around mental health
  • Track and analyze mental health screening data; provide recommendations for program improvement
  • May train and lead the activities of 1-2 mental health interns per semester
  • Oversee and facilitate mental health focused groups (psychosocial and caregiver support groups, psychoeducation)
  • Conduct outreach and training on refugee mental health and trauma-informed service provision for refugee populations
  • Attend monthly advisory coordination meetings, weekly meetings with health team staff, and supervision with Health and Wellness Program Manager
  • Support overall functioning of health programs, projects and initiatives in tandem with in-office goals addressing health needs
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation in client’s case file to ensure services are properly documented throughout the client’s service period; document all services provided in IRC’s database, Efforts to Outcomes (ETO).
  • Follow all policies and protocols of the agency
  • Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor ’ s degree in mental health related field, Psychology or Social Work strongly preferred
  • Minimum 1-2 years of work experience in mental health; with diverse/refugee population
  • Familiarity with the local mental health care system and means of accessing care for individuals with low income and on Medicaid
  • Fluency in written and spoken English, additional knowledge of languages spoken by refugees encouraged and appreciated
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team member in varied global environments and contexts
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and ability to learn and utilize multiple electronic systems
  • Competency in data management and entry
  • Skill in understanding and complying by confidentiality guidelines and HIPAA
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively
  • Commitment to the mission of IRC and the SLC office needs and outcomes
Compensation

Compensation: (Pay Range: $24.70 - $27.19) Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
