IT Assistant – Clark Planetarium, Salt Lake County
OverviewMaintains general office computer systems, upgrades hardware and software, installs new systems and peripherals using privileged accounts, performs data entry and reviews the controlled asset database, monitors consumables, operates IMAX theatre systems, assists in special events and exhibit maintenance, and troubleshoots general IT issues.
Minimum QualificationsTwo (2) years in a customer service position, of which at least one year must be experience or formal education in a computer‑related hardware, software or similar technical field.
Essential Functions- Sets up and installs computer hardware/software/peripherals for staff workstations and general use systems. Updates, troubleshoots and resolves problems.
- Assists staff with VPN/RDP connectivity and virtual/hybrid meeting equipment.
- Monitors and maintains consumable supplies and related equipment. Cleans and replaces equipment as needed.
- Operates and maintains IMAX theatre systems, including IMAX and auxiliary a/v systems.
- Assists the IT staff in other responsibilities related to building‑wide IT functions.
Skills and Abilities
(KSA)
- Basic computer hardware including internal components.
- Windows 10/11 operating systems and Microsoft Office 365 applications.
- Work under minimal supervision, completing assigned tasks on time and according to recurring schedules.
- Work in a highly stressful and time‑critical situations, maintaining a high degree of professionalism in conduct and interaction with all staff and patrons.
- Creativity, problem solving and attention to detail.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift 50 lbs safely. Performs work on ladders, high places, under desks, inside cabinets, dark areas, dusty areas and cramped spaces.
Schedule and Shift InformationSaturday morning shift required. Clark Planetarium is open 364 days/year and an average of 12 hours/day. This position may require evening, weekend and holiday work to accommodate planetarium programming and IT support issues.
Benefits and Employment StatusThis is an “At‑Will”, FLSA non‑exempt employee who is not eligible for County benefits. Must work an average of 29 hours or less per month.
