Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) at the University of Utah is seeking an experienced research development professional to join our team as Associate Director of Research Development. HCI is committed to cancer prevention, care, and survivorship for all communities within our service area—including Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming—with a global impact.
Responsibilities:- Assist faculty researchers in developing and managing multi-project grant proposals and other significant grants for HCI.
- Participate in programmatic teams, serving as shepherd, scheduler, stage manager, coach, editor, or contributor as needed.
- Manage the development of multi-project grant applications independently.
- Provide scientific writing and editorial review to produce high-quality grant proposals and narratives that meet funding agency guidelines.
- Support the writing of honorary award nominations for HCI faculty.
- Address writing, editorial, and analysis needs for the HCI Comprehensive Cancer Center Executive Director’s office and other areas as assigned.
- Develop awareness of HCI’s strategic goals through participation in meetings, seminars, retreats, and strategic planning events.
- Participate in strategic planning activities as assigned.
- Potentially assume a supervisory role.
- Master’s Degree plus two years of related experience, or Bachelor’s degree plus six years of related experience, or equivalent (one year of education can substitute for two years of experience).
- PhD in science or a related/equivalent field.
- Five years of progressively responsible management and/or editorial experience.
- Strong leadership, communication, and human relations skills.
- In-depth understanding of scientific funding mechanisms (NIH, DoD, Foundations) and grant application processes.
- Relevant experience in a university or NCI-designated Cancer Center setting.
- Project management experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Co-Pilot, Adobe Acrobat, End Note.
- Basic graphics skills with Adobe Illustrator and InDesign.
