Basic Job Functions

Responsible for providing leadership and management to assigned projects in a safe, profitable, and timely manner. Manages the work in a manner consistent with standards of quality and integrity.

Participates as requested in the marketing, estimating, bidding, and contract negotiation phases of the projects assigned. Primary function is to serve as champion for the execution of the work – pre‑construction (when assigned) and construction. Must have experience working on projects including large structures, underground utility, and dirt work.

This position includes two steps, Step I (≤ $20M, 3‑5 yrs experience) and Step II ($20‑$50M, 5‑10 yrs experience).

Key Responsibilities
  • Has overall responsibility for project success, including profitability, safety, schedule, quality, and customer satisfaction, as well as personnel decisions that impact the project.
  • Establishes the project charter and a comprehensive project management plan (PMP) covering scope, procurement, environmental, time, financial, quality, safety, and risk management.
  • Participates in the business development process: client contacts, relationships, proposals, presentations, and negotiations.
  • Responsible for understanding and administering prime contract terms, subcontract agreements, purchase order agreements, and insurance.
  • Oversees budgeting and cost control to keep the project within approved budget and demonstrates business acumen.
  • Participates in preparation and review of estimates with attention to cost control, equipment utilization, constructability, and schedule.
  • Champions the orderly transition of projects from the estimating phase to the field and coordinates review meetings covering contract requirements, budgets, subcontracts, and purchase orders.
  • Coordinates with the Project Superintendent on resources to achieve successful and profitable execution of the work.
  • Manages the overall CPM schedule and ensures coordination with the Project Superintendent and procurement schedule; prepares detailed schedules and prevents delays.
  • Responsible for the preparation of Monthly Progress Reports, including accurate cost projections.
  • Reviews, negotiates, and executes all change orders, supplements, and cost‑control budget adjustments.
  • Manages all billings to ensure timely submission of payment applications and collection from the owner, maintaining a positive cash flow.
  • Prepares purchase order agreements and subcontracts with appropriate insurance certificates, bonds, and lien waivers.
  • Completes close‑out requirements and punch lists in a timely manner; manages warranty callbacks quickly.
  • Prevents claims and mitigates the effects of occurring claims on a timely basis.
Minimum

Job Requirements
  • Four‑year construction‑related degree or equivalent training/experience.
  • Experience in pre‑construction and in managing construction projects.
  • Thorough knowledge of contract documents, materials, equipment utilization, scheduling systems, productivity analysis, construction operations, and cash‑flow procedures.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience working on heavy civil, structures, and dirt work.
Physical Requirements
  • Will sit, stand, or walk short distances for the duration of a shift.
  • Occasionally climb stairs, ladders, etc.
  • Lift, push, or pull objects on an occasional basis.
  • Use hands to grasp, lift, carry, or feel objects frequently.
  • Comply with all safety standards and procedures.
