The Sanitation Specialist is responsible for training, coaching, and assisting the detailed cleaning of the baking equipment and structures in a food manufacturing environment using specialized equipment and techniques to ensure the facility is audit ready at all times. The Sanitation Specialist will be the on‑shift coach and assistant for all sanitation events by the production shifts who will be breaking down the production equipment, cleaning the equipment, and sanitizing the equipment.
This position will be responsible for inspecting the equipment and taking all necessary swabs. On non‑clean‑up days, this position will be responsible for completing environmental swabs, creating, and updating SSOPs, and completing special projects in sanitation.
- Equipment Cleaning Coaching and Assistance

- Help with general sanitation if necessary to complete sanitation events in the required amount of time.
- Train and follow Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs)
- Help to coordinate scheduled tasks on the Master Sanitation Schedule
- Coach and perform assignments in accordance with established GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) policies and procedures.
- Coach and perform assignments in accordance with established Safety policies and procedures.
- Some additional tasks may be assigned, or some help requested to complete projects on time and distribute regular reports as scheduled.
- Participate in ongoing training sessions for Sanitation.
- Familiar with SQF, HACCP, and GMP practices which help ensure safety within the workplace and the production of a safe and quality product.
- Follow work instructions and OSHA safety rules, including the use of PPE and other safety equipment in an industrial environment.
- Complete all facility training.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The following list that follows is representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required:
- Proven experience in safely executing sanitation processes on equipment.
- Proven experience in safely executing sanitation processes on structures such as walls, floors and drains.
- Ability to run sanitation equipment such as a scrubber and a foamer.
- Ability to use sanitation chemicals.
- Ability to read, understand and communicate safety labels on chemical containers.
- Ability to train and evaluate those responsible for cleaning.
- Ability to make decisions based on standard practices.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, troubleshoot and problem solve.
- Basic understanding of sanitation processes and related equipment.
- Ability to work overtime as needed with little or no notice.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to reach and bend over.
- Ability to pay attention to detail.
- A high school diploma or its equivalent is preferred.
- Complete working knowledge of sanitation processes typically resulting from a minimum of one-year experience in related jobs is acceptable, but not necessary.
- Properly follow all sanitation standards, quality standards, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and detailed operating manuals.
- Bilingual is a bonus.
This position has supervisory responsibilities.
WORK ENVIRONMENTThis position works in a manufacturing setting, with possible outdoor exposure during the workday. The employee is exposed to airborne particles, cleaning chemicals, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
- Hair nets, ear plugs/muffs, gloves, boots, aprons and/or safety glasses/goggles may be required.
- Ability to frequently clean equipment floor-to-waist, waist-to-shoulder, shoulder-to-overhead and pushing/pulling/carrying.
- Ability to constantly stand/walk; bend/flex/extend/twist neck and back; frequently grip/reach/lift/pull with L/R hands.
- Ability to tolerate humid, wet working environments with temperatures up to 70 degrees
F. - Ability to be in contact with sanitation/cleaning chemicals.
