Position: Sanitation Specialist (Night Shift)

Summary Description

The Sanitation Specialist is responsible for training, coaching, and assisting the detailed cleaning of the baking equipment and structures in a food manufacturing environment using specialized equipment and techniques to ensure the facility is audit ready at all times. The Specialist will be the on‑shift coach and assistant for all sanitation events during production shifts, overseeing the breakdown, cleaning, and sanitization of equipment.

This role also inspects equipment and conducts swabs. On non‑clean‑up days, responsibilities include completing environmental swabs, creating and updating SSOPs, and managing special sanitation projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Equipment Cleaning Coaching and Assistance
  • Facility structure cleaning evaluation
    • Use of highlift
  • ATP Swabbing
  • Environmental Swabbing
  • Assist with general sanitation to meet required time frames
  • Train and enforce Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs)
  • Coordinate scheduled tasks on the Master Sanitation Schedule
  • Coach and perform tasks in accordance with GMP and safety policies
  • Report project status and complete regular reporting
  • Participate in ongoing sanitation training sessions
  • Demonstrate effective verbal communication skills
  • Apply knowledge of SQF, HACCP, and GMP to ensure workplace safety and product quality
  • Follow OSHA safety rules, including PPE usage
  • Complete all facility training
Qualifications
  • Proven experience in executing sanitation processes on equipment and structures
  • Ability to run sanitation equipment such as scrubbers and foamers
  • Proficiency with sanitation chemicals and chemical label safety
  • Experience training and evaluating cleaning personnel
  • Decision‑making based on standard practices
  • Multi‑tasking, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills
  • Basic understanding of sanitation processes and related equipment
  • Flexibility to work overtime with little notice
  • Basic computer skills
  • Physical ability to reach, bend, and lift as required
  • Attention to detail
Education and/or Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • One year of related experience acceptable but not required
Language Skills
  • Proficiency in following sanitation, quality, and safety standards
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Bilingual language skills considered a bonus
Supervisory Responsibility

This position has supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment
  • Manufacturing setting with potential outdoor exposure
  • Exposure to airborne particles, cleaning chemicals, moving mechanical parts, vibration, and loud noise
  • PPE required: hair nets, ear plugs/muffs, gloves, boots, aprons, and/or safety glasses/goggles
  • Physical tasks: frequent cleaning and handling of equipment from floor to waist, waist to shoulder, and overhead; pushing, pulling, carrying
  • Requires standing/walking, bending/flexing/extending/twisting neck and back, frequent grip/reach/lift/pull
  • Capacity to tolerate humid, wet conditions with temperatures up to 70 °F
  • Contact with sanitation chemicals
Physical Demands

Must be able to stand, move, and work throughout the plant and offices, including walking, climbing stairs and ladders. Must be able to grasp, bend, lift, carry or move equipment parts up to 25 lb. on an intermittent basis. Must be able to scrub equipment with long‑handled brushes and pads, sometimes erate to high noise levels.
