Position Summary
Fitter/Welder role at Hoj Engineering and Sales.
Read blueprints and fabricate, cast, and forge components to assemble structural forms such as machinery frames, tanks, pressure vessels, furnace shells, and building and bridge parts. Equipment used includes welder, grinder, gouge, drills, punches, saws, and other hand tools.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Make all welds uniform and clean, completing work to customer's specifications.
- Read all weld symbols on a blueprint.
- Differentiate between channel, angle, flat bar, square tube, pipe, etc.
- Operate Fabrication Shop and Machine Shop machinery and equipment; read job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements.
- Pass basic plate weld test (visual and bend) within specified time requirements for weld processes used.
- G.M.A.W. – Mild steel: 1G, 2G and 3G position.
- S.A.W. – Sub arc: 1G position.
- Set stops or guides to specified length as indicated by scale, rule, or template.
- Perform minor machine maintenance such as oiling machines, dies, or work pieces.
- Set up and perform maintenance on fab and machine shop machines and perform burning work.
- Operate equipment needed to perform job including overhead cranes & forklifts.
- Be efficient and productive with time.
- Maintain acceptable attendance and safety record.
- Maintain safe environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or GED.
- 2 years related experience and/or training.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to read and interpret metal rule.
- Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
- Must understand implicit and explicit instructions and react favorably in all work situations.
- Must be a team player, able to resolve problems, handle conflicts, and make effective decisions under pressure.
- Must pass a pre‑employment drug screen, random drug and/or alcohol tests, and background checks.
Requires lifting, stooping, bending, and stretching; use of arms and hands to accomplish grinding, welding, and other duties. Must lift up to 25 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 50 pounds. May be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, chemicals, electrical shock and explosives. Noise level is high; ear protection necessary.
