American Fence Company is looking for a Fabricator II to assist with fabricating, positioning, aligning, and fitting parts for gates, fence panels, custom order fencing, or ornamental iron fencing. We have a competitive starting pay of $23.00 - $26.00
/hour with a full benefits package.
Duties Include:
- Learn to be competent to use 4 out of the following tools or tool sets in the fabrication of chain‑link, fencing products and/or ornamental iron.
- Fabric wrapper
- Band saw, abrasive chop saw, Collins cutter
- Arc welder, electro paint spray gun, Plasma cutter
- Bending, notching, and swaging machines
- General hand tools
- Forklift
- May read job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements.
- Lay out and examine metal stock or work pieces to be processed to ensure that specifications are met.
- Assist others to set up machine, and stack, mark, pack, and transport finished pieces.
- Set up and operate fabricating machines, such as hydraulic bending tables, rolls, shears, plasma cutters, grinders, and drill presses, to bend, cut, form, punch, drill, or otherwise form and assemble metal components.
- Locate and mark workpiece bending and cutting lines, allowing for stock thickness, machine and welding shrinkage, and other component specifications.
- Sets stops or guides to specified length as indicated by scale, rule, or template.
- Learn to position, align, fit, and weld parts to form complete units or subunits, following blueprints and layout specifications, and using jigs, welding machines, and hand tools.
- Positions piece against stops or aligns layout marks with die or blade.
- Verify conformance of work pieces to specifications, using squares, rulers, measuring tapes, and a quality assurance check.
- Set up face blocks, jigs, and fixtures.
- Cleans and scrapes metal preparatory to fabricating, welding, painting, or shipping.
- Preheat work pieces to make them malleable, using hand torch.
- Move parts into position, manually or with hoist.
- Remove high spots and cut bevels, using hand files, portable grinders, and cutting torches.
- Mark reference points onto floors or face blocks and transpose them to work pieces, using measuring devices, squares, chalk, and soapstone.
- Learn to tack‑weld fitted parts together.
- Position or tighten jigs, braces, or clamps in position for welding.
- Lift or move materials and finished products, manually or with hoist.
- Design and construct templates and fixtures, using hand tools.
- Hammer, chip, and grind work pieces to cut, bend, and straighten metal.
- Straighten warped or bent parts, using sledges, hand torches, or straightening presses.
- Smooth workpiece edges.
- Picks up and trucks scrap from work areas.
- Cleans work area, machines, tools, and equipment.
- High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED):
Preferred
- 1+ years experience in steel fabrication required
Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen. Valid driver's license issued in the employing state and good driving record.
