The IRC in Salt Lake City (IRC SLC) opened in 1994 and provides resettlement services through extended case management to newly arrived refugees for up to 24-months as well as over twenty different programs to educate and empower refugees.
Job Overview:With the support of the Economic Empowerment Program Manager, the Financial Capability Coordinator will support clients’ financial capability needs by coordinating and conducting group trainings, workshops, and individual financial counseling/coaching sessions for refugees and immigrants, and by becoming a certified financial coach. This position is responsible for implementing and strengthening a practical financial literacy curriculum that supports the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to engage constructively with the American financial system.
The role also includes managing client pipelines, compiling program data, supporting reporting, and engaging with community partners to expand program reach and referrals.
- Coordinate, deliver, and adapt financial education curriculum, classes, and workshops for refugees and immigrants, including teaching classes at community partner sites to expand access.
- Provide one-on-one financial consultations and coaching to help participants with personal and household financial matters, goal setting, credit building, and action planning.
- Manage a client pipeline by tracking prospective and current clients, ensuring timely intake, consistent follow-up, and ongoing financial coaching to support long-term financial stability and growth.
- Engage with community partners to establish two-way referral pathways and collaborate on outreach, events, and educational opportunities.
- Compile, track, and analyze program data; prepare reports to support the Economic Empowerment Program Manager with program evaluation, continuous improvement, and donor reporting.
- Serve as a certified Financial Coach (will receive certification training in the first 6 months of employment).
- Work with clients to review personal credit history and support credit improvement activities.
- Provide local support for clients applying for and following up on credit‑building and consumer loans provided by IRC’s Center for Economic Opportunity (CEO).
- Support the recruitment, promotion, coordination, and management of annual VITA free tax preparation services for refugees and new Americans.
- Coordinate with the Small Business and Resettlement teams to provide financial coaching to refugee and new American small business owners as needed.
- Identify and build relationships with financial capability partners, volunteers, community organizations, and financial institutions to strengthen available resources and opportunities for clients.
- Support innovation in programming by piloting new initiatives or adapting existing services based on client needs and community trends.
- Represent the IRC at community events, conferences, and stakeholder meetings to promote financial capability programs and advocate for client needs.
- Conduct outreach for community-based financial education and financial capability events.
- Participate in program meetings, weekly staff meetings, staff development activities, and national skills‑building trainings, calls, and communities of practice, while fully engaging as a member of the team.
