Salt Lake County’s Most Vulnerable Populations Ameri Corps Program focuses on reducing systematic inequities in housing stability. Ameri Corps Members help bridge the gap and reduce barriers for a variety of vulnerable populations, including youth, individuals experiencing homelessness, and those involved in the Criminal Justice System. Members are placed in community agencies to assist with housing placement, job placement, system navigation, healthcare liaisons, volunteer recruitment, and more.
WhatIs Ameri Corps
Ameri Corps is a voluntary civil society program supported by the U.S. federal government, foundations, corporations, and other donors. It engages adults in public service work, aiming to help others and meet critical community needs. The program is often described as the domestic Peace Corps.
Membership CommitmentMembers commit to a 12‑month part‑time service/internship position (675 to 900 hours).
LocationMembers are placed throughout the community in a network of nonprofits and public agencies. For the 2026 program year, partnering agencies include Salt Lake City Public Library, The INN Between, Utah Health Policy Project, International Rescue Committee, Housing Connect, Ruff Haven Crisis Sheltering, Clean Slate Utah, Granite School District, The Family Support Center, Columbus Community Center, Alliance, Salt Lake County Coordinated Entry, and Peace House.
All positions are direct service; remote work is not available.
This program is open to both students and non‑students. Students may be eligible for internship credit.

TrainingMembers will participate in agency training activities to build knowledge, skills, and abilities for delivering client services. Training sessions include Ameri Corps service projects, professional skill development, and work experience opportunities.
Minimum Qualifications- Must pass an FBI Criminal Background Check
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- High School Diploma or GED; a college degree in social services, health access, or criminal justice is a plus
- Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship
- Able to operate standard office equipment
- Establish working relationships with clients, co‑workers, and other professionals
- Work independently as well as collaboratively
- Provide constructive feedback to clients while maintaining confidentiality
- Display cultural competency, compassion, and understanding for clients’ needs
- Be open to working occasional evenings and weekends if requested
- Member Living Allowance on a bi‑weekly schedule
- Education Award upon completion of Term of Service
