- Perform comprehensive assessments and monitor critically ill patients, including vital signs, labs, and clinical status.
- Administer prescriptions, medications, and therapies per orders and protocols, including vasoactive drugs and sedation.
- Assist in managing invasive devices (central lines, arterial lines, catheters) and emergent bedside procedures.
- Manage ventilator settings, hemodynamic monitoring, and life‑support systems.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans and monitor their effectiveness.
- Provide compassionate end‑of‑life care aligned with patient goals and values.
- Support early mobilization of patients and continuously evaluate hemodynamic changes.
- Advocate for patient needs and foster a healing environment through emotional support and pain management.
- Educate patients and families on disease processes, medications, and care plans.
- Promote team building, morale, and professional communication; support staff development and shared governance.
- Ensure safety by complying with standards and identifying improvement opportunities.
- Mentor and support new nurses and team members.
- Evaluate personal practice against professional standards and regulations.
- Commit to lifelong learning through research, continuing education, skills training, and certifications.
- Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of critical care nursing.
- In‑depth understanding of critical‑care principles, patient management, and advanced interventions.
- Rapid recognition and response to critical patient status changes, including advanced cardiac life support.
- Effective communication in high‑stress situations, showing mental and emotional stamina.
- Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and decision‑making skills.
- Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting complex medical equipment.
- Detail‑oriented, well‑organized, and capable of managing hazards associated with patient care.
- Adaptability to 12‑hour, extended, or alternative shift schedules.
- Understanding of life‑span development principles and assessment of patient status.
- Current registered nurse license in the State of Utah (or obtain one within 90 days if interstate).
- Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system (to be obtained within 30 days of hire).
- Additional license requirements as determined by the hiring department.
- Certifications such as ACLS, PALS, or NRP within one year of hire.
- Two years of previous nursing experience, preferably in ICU or critical care settings.
- Experience handling critically ill or unstable patients.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, pull up to 100 pounds, and move equipment or patients.
- Exposure to infectious diseases and potential interaction with prisoners or behavioral health patients.
