PS Nurse Practitioner
Position: PS Nurse Practitioner – Department:
Transplant Surgery, University of Utah Health Research, Campus, Salt Lake City, UT.
Schedule:
14 shifts a month (12‑hour shifts), includes nights, holidays, and weekends. Standard hours per week: 40. Full time.
Patient care in the Division of Transplantation and Advanced Hepatobiliary Surgery. Provide care to kidney, pancreas, and liver transplant recipients, as well as hepatobiliary and general surgery patients. The role is an inpatient, primarily postoperative care of transplant and hepatobiliary patients. Prior experience with transplant/surgery preferred but not required.
Responsibilities- Work 14 shifts a month (12‑hour shifts), including nights, holidays, and weekends.
- Patient population consists of kidney, pancreas, and liver transplant recipients, kidney donors, hepatobiliary patients, and general surgery procedures on pre‑ and post‑transplant patients; inpatient liver transplant evaluations.
- Perform physical examinations and take complex medical histories on high acuity patients.
- Order and review laboratory studies, as well as diagnostic procedures.
- Review patients’ progress and manage patient care accordingly.
- Maintain all required documentation for patient care.
- Develop treatment plans in conjunction with attending physicians.
- Facilitate inpatient multidisciplinary rounds daily on postoperative patients.
- Participate in continuing medical education, specialty and sub‑specialty meetings, boards, and conferences.
- Order consultations and interact with members of other specialty medical teams.
- Participate in and present Morbidity and Mortality presentations.
- Participate in kidney and liver transplant selection committees.
- Participate in monthly APC education meetings.
- Participate in other meetings and trainings as outlined by leadership team.
- Perform procedures: line/drain removal, wound care, suturing.
- Assist in the operating room as needed for kidney, pancreas, liver transplants and other surgeries including laparoscopic/robotic hernia repairs, liver resections, PD catheter insertions/removals, donor nephrectomies, native nephrectomies, etc.
- Assist in the collection of data for research as necessary.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate to the age of the patients served. Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of lifespan growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding patient status and provide care per department policies and procedures manual.
- Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Utah.
- Certification in ACLS, BLS, NRP, ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.
- Utah State prescriptive privileges.
- Completion of a Master’s degree in Nursing or equivalent (current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner) and a National Certification requiring the successful completion of a nationally accredited examination.
- Experience in transplant/surgery preferred.
