Job Summary and QualificationsThe Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Coordinator (CNC) ensures and delivers high quality, patient-centered care and coordination of all functions in the unit/department during the designated shift. In collaboration with other members of the management team, the CNC directs, monitors, and evaluates nursing care in accordance with established policies/procedures, serves as a resource person for staff, and models a commitment to the organization’s vision/mission/values to support an unparalleled patient experience and clinical outcomes that contribute to overall departmental performance.
What you will do in this role:
- Coordinate care of ECMO patients from candidate evaluation, selection, priming emergency management and short and long-term follow-up care
- Provides appropriate education to all patients, family and staff.
- Ensure appropriate in-service with staff and physicians on new equipment and supplies
- Serve as a resource to multidisciplinary team caring for ECMO patients, providing expertise in device operation and management.
- Develop and maintain ECMO technologies quality control, collection, analysis and dissemination of data to appropriate parties
- Develop polies, procedures and standards of care and continuous quality improvement activities for the program.
- Perform as an expert clinician with extensive knowledge of ECMO for all phases of patient care.
- Actively participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds, offering clinical expertise in ECMO management.
- Provides classroom training, bedside orientation and skills lab precepting for bedside staff - providing direct care
- Facilitates ECMO case reviews with the medical directors and oversees ECMO documentation ensuring accuracy for abstraction to the ELSO registry.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Spt must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
- (RN) Registered Nurse
- Bachelors Degree
- 2+ years of ECMO experience required
- Strong communication and organizational skills required
