Position OverviewThe Intensive Outpatient Clinic (IOC) at University of Utah Health seeks a qualified Nurse Practitioner to be an integral part of an interdisciplinary team delivering exceptional patient‑centered care for a targeted population of individuals with complex medical and psychosocial needs. The IOC provides comprehensive and integrated care and aims to improve clinical outcomes while decreasing the overall cost of care. In 2023, Governor Cox's One Utah Health Collaborative recognized the IOC for its leadership in novel care delivery and sustainable financial innovation.
The clinic exclusively serves a Medicaid population and operates under a capitated model.
- Takes complex medical histories on patients referred for consultation by academic and community physicians.
- Performs physical examinations.
- Orders laboratory tests, x‑rays, special imaging studies and other diagnostic procedures.
- May perform bone marrow aspirations and biopsies, skin biopsies, lumbar punctures; administer intrathecal chemotherapy; and may participate in bone marrow harvests.
- Monitors the level of and adjusts immunosuppressive medications.
- Orders and supervises the administration of blood products.
- Reaches tentative diagnosis of medical, surgical and other conditions.
- Develops treatment plans in conjunction with attending physicians to provide optimal patient medical management.
- Participates in continuing medical education, specialty and sub‑specialty meetings, clubs, boards and conferences.
- Assists in the collection of data for research projects.
- Orders consultations and interacts with members of other specialty medical teams.
- Participates in special projects and committee functions.
- Works collaboratively on the interdisciplinary team—making sound clinical recommendations that align with and support each patient's psychosocial goals.
- Delivers high‑quality, exceptional, and tailored care as described in the IOC's policies and procedures and at the University of Utah standard of care.
- Oversees and supervises Nurse Practitioners, Interns, and other learners within their area of assignment.
- Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Utah.
- Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS as required by the department or privileging criteria.
- Utah State prescriptive privileges.
- Completed a Master's degree in Nursing or an equivalent (the only equivalent to the Master's degree is current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner).
- National certification requiring successful completion of a nationally accredited examination.
- Compliance with institutional credentialing and privileging procedures at the time of hire.
- Immunization according to CDC standards and hospital policy.
