Nurse Practitioner – University of Utah
Job SummaryWe are seeking a highly skilled and motivated nurse practitioner or physician's assistant to join our cardiovascular intensive care unit (CVICU) team. The APP will provide advanced care and support to critically ill patients recovering from cardiac surgery, including management of mechanical circulatory support and heart/lung transplants. This role allows practice to the fullest extent of your scope and capabilities.
Responsibilities- Perform comprehensive assessments and physical exams of patients with cardiovascular conditions after cardiovascular surgery.
- Manage and coordinate care with a multidisciplinary team in the care‑planning and management of post‑operative cardiovascular surgery patients.
- Maintain familiarity with and manage vasoactive infusions, including titration of vasopressors and management of cardiogenic shock with inotropic infusions.
- Prescribe medications, order, and interpret diagnostic tests.
- Provide critical care support including management of mechanical ventilation and mechanical circulatory support (MCS).
- Responsible for bedside procedures including arterial line placement, central line placement, pigtail thoracostomy tube placement, and intubation.
- Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Utah.
- Licensure requires completing a Master’s degree in Nursing or equivalency and a national certification through an accredited examination.
- Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS (may be required by department or privileging criteria).
- Utah State prescriptive privileges.
- Experience with mechanical circulatory support and post‑operative cardiovascular surgery care.
- Patients sensitive position; requires immunization per CDC standards and hospital policy (with possible exemptions for medical contraindications or religious beliefs).
- Newly hired non‑physician providers must apply for credentialing and privileging at the time of hire.

- Work Schedule:
12–13 hour shifts per month with some night, weekend, and holiday requirements; no out‑of‑hospital call. - Full Time position located on campus.
