Job Summary

Develops synthetic glycan research projects and is responsible for scientific design, conduct and interpretation, presenting results and publishing manuscripts.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related scientific field, or equivalency, plus two years of related experience. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required.
A valid Utah Driver’s License may be required in certain departments.
Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in chemical biology or another scientific discipline in a related field plus three years of experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.

Responsibilities

Develops scientific research projects and acts as a co-principal investigator or key personnel.

Researches and stays current with project related scientific literature.

Sets up new methods or assays to accomplish scientific objectives.

Identifies and implements creative solutions to overcome problems.

Organizes, interprets data and derives study conclusions.

Manages and trains research staff to achieve research goals.

Collaborates with internal and external investigators on multiple research projects ensuring scientific significance and feasibility.

Summarizes results of lab studies in the form of scientific abstracts and manuscripts.

Serves as a resource to provide scientific information needed for various initiatives aimed at understanding human health and diseases.

Contributes to teaching activities by preparing and presenting educational seminars.

Assists with grant preparation by researching background, significance and planning statistics.

Attends national conferences and presents results of scientific studies.
