Job Summary
Lab Specialist position in a research lab focused on the impact of hypoxia on rodent behavior and molecular markers for inflammation and oxidative stress. Applicant will consult with supervisor on lab protocols and experimental design, then work independently on research projects.
Responsibilities- Oversee training of junior lab technicians.
- Consult with senior laboratory personnel on procedures and techniques, recommending modifications as needed.
- Assist with and train others to conduct tests and procedures according to laboratory protocols.
- Assist with and train others in routine maintenance and cleanliness of laboratory areas.
- Assist with and train others to conduct literature reviews to obtain abstracts and information for research.
- Assay data: perform statistical calculations, analyze results, and prepare reports summarizing findings.
- May assist with training others in animal care and tissue collection for laboratory analysis.
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related scientific discipline (equivalent work experience accepted).
- Two years full‑time laboratory experience.
- Proficiency in lab techniques such as ELISA, western blotting, flow cytometry, cryostat sectioning, and immunohistochemical staining.
- Experience with rats and preferably rodent behavioral assays.
- Ability to read experimental protocols, set up new assays with minimal supervision, and analyze data with statistical methods.
- Strong communication skills; able to report data clearly to senior lab personnel.
- Experience with USHOP ordering and literature surveys is a plus.
- Prior experience with rodent behavior, particularly cognitive function assays.
- Experience with ELISA, PCR, flow cytometry, western blotting, and immunocytochemistry.
- Independently working in a research laboratory setting.
