Research Technicians (Hobbs Lab) – University of Utah
Job Summary
Performs technical procedures in a research laboratory under minimal supervision by applying standard scientific techniques and analytical principles.
Responsibilities
- Assist with general lab management, preparation of reagents and recombinant enzymes, and ordering of lab supplies.
- Work closely with all members, participate and present in lab meetings, pursue an individual research project, and co-author publications.
- Maintain stocks of common laboratory proteins, prepare common laboratory solutions, competent cells and reagents.
- Maintain a detailed notebook of protocols and research activities.
- Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and work areas.
- Order lab supplies and communicate with vendors.
- Manage lab safety and coordinate with Environmental Health and Safety.
Specific Advantages To Joining The New Hobbs Lab
- 1 on 1 training with Dr. Hobbs.
- Learn advanced recombinant protein expression and purification techniques.
- Pursue an individual research project related to innate immunity, enzymology, and structural biology.
- Learn advanced experimental design and be responsible for intellectual commitment to position and relevant literature.
- Participate in lab meetings and work closely with all members of the lab.
Minimum Qualifications
- 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience.
- Research Technician I:
Requires little to no related experience. - Research Technician II:
Requires at least 1 year of related experience. - Research Technician III:
Requires 3+ years of related experience. - Research Technician IV:
Requires 5+ years of related experience.
Preferences
At least 1.5–2.0 years of availability; previous laboratory experience in protein purification, tissue culture, or microbial culturing is preferred but not required.
