DutiesDuring their careers, special agents perform assignments in investigations and protection, often at multiple duty stations across the U.S. and abroad.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing protection for various protectees.
- Conducting criminal investigations related to financial obligations of the United States.
- Planning and executing security designs for National Special Security Events.

Requirements- U.S. citizenship required.
- Possess a valid driver's license.
- Carry and use a firearm; firearm proficiency is mandatory.
- Be at least 21 years old at application and under 37 at conditional offer, unless prior federal law enforcement service applies. Applicants with veteran's preference must receive a conditional offer before age 40.
- Obtain and maintain a Top Secret Clearance.
- Uncorrected visual acuity no worse than 20/100 binocular; corrected visual acuity of 20/20 or better in each eye.
- Hearing loss must not exceed 25 decibels in either ear (500, 1000, 2000
Hz ranges). - Submit to drug testing prior to appointment and during employment.
- Complete 13 weeks of training at FLETC in Glynco, GA, and 18 weeks at the James J. Rowley Training Center in Laurel, MD.
- Willingness to accept assignments anywhere in the U.S. and abroad.
- Register with the Selective Service System or be exempt (if male, born after December 31, 1959).
