OverviewAs a Ubuntu Engineer you will ship high quality, performant, and resilient software that becomes the foundation for millions of users worldwide. You will work across the breadth of the Ubuntu Engineering organization, designing, engineering, packaging, and shipping new software and maintaining the existing catalog.

Architect and ship the core systems that power Ubuntu. - Server

Design and evolve the Ubuntu Server distribution. - Desktop

Deliver an immutable future desktop with modern applications. - Debcrafters
:
Maintain the health and forward‑movement of the Ubuntu archive.
- Design, build, and ship new foundational systems software and applications in Rust, Go, Flutter, and Python.
- Engineer the integration of open source from boot firmware to cloud application deployment.
- Package, integrate, test, and ship open source software to the Ubuntu repositories.
- Debug system‑level issues and deliver robust solutions.
- Author and improve technical and community documentation.
- Contribute to upstream and neighboring open source projects.
- Collaborate as part of a globally distributed team.
- Mentor colleagues to build skills and understanding.
- Develop and improve processes to more efficiently fulfill our goals.
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a compelling narrative of an alternative path.
- Strong passion and significant experience with Rust, Go, Python, Flutter, or C/C++.
- Excellent written and spoken English and strong communication skills.
- Ability to travel twice a year for company events up to two weeks each.
- Drive, a track record of going above and beyond expectations, and a demonstrated passion for open source software.
- Experience with Linux distributions and distribution engineering.
- Experience with software packaging and distribution mechanisms.
- Understanding of build systems and tool chains, including for cross‑compilation.
- Performance or security engineering experience.
- Remote work in any time zone.
