Compensation- Transportation Engineer I (B24): $65,104 – $106,634 annually
- Transportation Engineer II (B25): $69,572 – $114,099 annually
- Anticipated Starting Salary: $74,340 – $96,000 per year

ResponsibilitiesFor both levels:
- Perform transportation engineering work in planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations, and/or maintenance.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines.
- Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities.
Job Duties
- Assist in the development, preparation and letting of maintenance contracts for the district.
- Drive/travel to project/work locations for on‑site engineering reviews, analyses, tests, and to provide technical support.
- Make presentations and represent TxDOT.
- Review and process Plans, Specifications & Estimates (PS&E) submissions, special specifications or provisions.
- Analyze statewide pavement conditions and develop reports.
- Perform engineering design work such as layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates, and contracts.
- Assist in preparing reports on pavement conditions.
- Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
- Coordinate with Area Engineers and review area office contract submissions.
- Analyze and recommend approval for modifications to highway maintenance contracts.
- Education
:
Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related science; higher degree accepted by TX PELS. - Experience
:- Transportation Engineer I: 4 years
* of engineering or transportation engineering experience. - Transportation Engineer II: 5 years*.
* Experience may be satisfied by full‑time or prorated part‑time equivalent. Related graduate‑level education may be substituted on a year‑per‑year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications are available. - Transportation Engineer I: 4 years
- Valid driver’s license (position requires driving a state vehicle).
