Data Analyst, Data Engineer
The Data Analyst supports institutional data governance, stewardship, and analytics initiatives by collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to inform decision‑making and improve operational efficiency. This role collaborates with cross‑functional teams to ensure data quality, consistency, and accessibility across systems and platforms.
Typical Duties /Job Duties
- Use repeatable techniques to extract meaningful impacts and to identify patterns, trends, correlations and anomalies.
- Develop and maintain dashboards and visualizations to communicate data findings effectively.
- Assist in the development and monitoring of key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics aligned with institutional priorities.
- Use statistical methods and techniques to extract meaningful insights and to identify patterns, trends, correlations and anomalies.
- Collaborate with IT professionals to optimize data collection, storage and retrieval processes.
- Support data governance efforts by contributing to data quality assessments, metadata documentation and stewardship workflows.
- Coordinate with the Data Management Officer (DMO) to align analytics efforts with university data strategy.
- Ensure compliance with data privacy, security and ethical standards in all data handling activities.
- Expert knowledge of descriptive and inferential statistical analysis techniques.
- Knowledge of data visualization principles and best practices for communicating insights effectively.
- Knowledge of data modeling and data warehousing concepts.
- Knowledge of data privacy regulations such as FERPA, HIPAA, or other policies relevant to institutional data.
- Knowledge of reporting requirements for agencies such as DIR, THECB, etc.
- Skilled in working with large datasets, including data cleansing, transformation, and validation.
- Skilled in presenting complex analytical concepts, models, and results to diverse audiences.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and integrity.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.
- Ability to convey technical information clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Ability to quickly learn data requirements, systems, and processes related to institutional reporting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Information Systems, Statistics, or a related field.
- At least three years of experience as a data analyst, data scientist, BI analyst, or related profession.
- Demonstrated project experience with programming languages such as SQL and Python for data manipulation and analysis.
- Proven experience with data analysis and visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau and Microsoft Excel.
