Biological Field Technician
Western Eco Systems Technology, Inc. (WEST) is looking for a temporary, part-time Biological Field Technician.
Pay RangeBase pay: $21.00/hr – $22.50/hr
- Compensation: $21-$22.50/hour
- Housing: A housing stipend will be provided for out-of-area candidates.
- Start Date: February 2, 2026
- End Date: January 31, 2027
- Vehicle: A vehicle will be provided for work; mileage reimbursed for personal vehicle use. GPS unit, compass, camera, and range finder (if necessary) provided by WEST; technician must provide own safety boots, clothing, binoculars.
Primary duties involve:
- Conducting fatality monitoring for bird and bat fatalities beneath operating wind turbines.
- Fieldwork requiring long days in a range of temperatures and wind speeds.
- Long hours of walking, sometimes in inclement conditions.
- Handling hazards of the environment (sharp vegetation, driving a four‑wheel drive vehicle, dust, extreme heat and cold).
- Work expected to be 20-25 hours per week.
- Using compass, GPS devices, binoculars, range finders, digital cameras and maintaining equipment.
- Training provided for all survey efforts and job‑related activities.
- Following all safety protocols for WEST and wind energy facilities.
- Using good judgment to stay safe and work efficiently.

Requirements- Bachelor’s degree in natural resources, wildlife management, wildlife biology or equivalent preferred; undergraduates encouraged to apply.
- Ability to work independently and interact professionally with project managers, biologists, technicians, clients, and landowners.
- Equipment maintenance and protocol adherence required.
- Good bird and bat identification skills; use of guides and keys preferred.
- Skilled use of GPS units, topographic maps, compass, and other field equipment required.
- Reliability: punctual, follows instructions, collaborates effectively, maintains a positive attitude, accepts guidance and constructive criticism.
- Precise and thorough data collection essential.
- Good physical shape; surveys conducted in extreme temperatures and conditions.
- Hike in adverse conditions for long hours.
After an offer of employment is made, the candidate must successfully pass a pre‑employment background check, drug screening, DMV records check that meets WEST’s minimum criteria to operate a motor vehicle on behalf of the company. A valid driver’s license is required. Candidates must adhere to all health and safety requirements.
