Southside Animal Hospital in San Angelo, TX, is proud to be West Texas’ only hybrid General Practice/Emergency hospital—offering an exceptional learning opportunity for veterinary students interested in both routine and urgent care.

Our 3-doctor team is dedicated to teaching and mentoring future veterinarians in a warm, collaborative setting. Whether you're assisting in routine wellness exams or helping with emergency procedures, you’ll get meaningful, hands-on experience every step of the way.

Externship Highlights:

• Experience the full spectrum of care—from preventive medicine and diagnostics to surgical and emergency services
• Work closely with experienced, teaching-focused DVMs
• Practice communication skills with clients, techs, and the veterinary team
• Develop confidence in exams, treatment plans, dental procedures, and more

Program Details:

• Duration: minimum 2 weeks, up to 4 weeks, flexible based on your schedule
• Eligibility: veterinary students encouraged to apply; clinical-year students eligible for stipends
• Travel Stipend:
  Up to $2,500 available for 3rd and 4th-year students (clinical portion)
