A utility maintenance technician, who, under general supervision, participates in mechanical work including, maintenance and repair of Water and Wastewater (W/WW) treatment plant equipment; repair, rebuild, and installation of equipment that is necessary for plant operation.
Responsibilities- Performing a variety of skilled labor in the installation, maintenance, and repair of W/WW treatment plant equipment and components; reading and interpreting diagrams, schematics, and blueprints; assisting with maintenance of facilities and grounds.
- Functioning as a lead worker of a crew, and making appropriate decisions based on work experience; duties will vary according to job assignment and individual skills.
- Monitoring W/WW plant operations and inspecting facilities and equipment to determine maintenance needs; identifying specific maintenance needs, estimating repair and maintenance requirements, and recommending corrective actions; installing equipment and components and performing on mechanical and electromechanical equipment and components as directed.
- Examining equipment malfunctions and troubleshooting actual and potential problems; repairing, disassembling, rebuilding, and adjusting equipment and components; fabricating and reconditioning parts as needed; ensuring equipment functions meet job specifications and technical codes.
- Performing job functions within the scope of authority, and in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; notifying supervisors of mechanical repair problems beyond the scope of authority.
- Maintaining W/WW plant work areas in a safe and orderly condition; operating and maintaining a variety of specialized vehicles and equipment in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; identifying and reporting vehicle and equipment problems requiring additional repair.
- Ensuring that safety rules and regulations are followed; utilizing proper safety precautions in all work performed; reporting safety hazards, equipment problems, and emergency situations.
- This is a rotating on call position that may include holidays or weekends.
- Regular and timely attendance is required.
- Interpreting and applying technical standards and procedures, state rules and regulations, and City policies and procedures.
- Monitoring operations, troubleshooting equipment malfunctions, identifying maintenance and safety issues, and recommending solutions.
- Reading and interpreting technical diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.
- Reading and interpreting gauges and recording devices.
- Operating and maintaining specialized utility system maintenance tools and equipment.
- Promoting and enforcing safe work practices.
- Effective verbal and written communications.
- Prioritizing multiple tasks, projects, and demands.
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers.
Education and Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent; four years' experience in the operation and maintenance of a W/WW treatment system, including two years' experience as a Class C W/WW Operator, preferably with the City of San Angelo; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must possess a valid Texas Commercial Driver License B (CDL/B) with a good driving record.
- Applicants with an out-of-state driver license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure.
- Class D - Water/Wastewater Operator license from Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) is required.
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors.
- Required to perform moderate physical work, and lift and carry up to 100 pounds.
