General

Description

Serves as a vital member of the Veterans Employment Services team. The Rural Veterans Career Advisor provides a full range of intensive services with an emphasis on case management, employment, training, and placement services to meet the needs of Veterans, with priority given to Disabled Veterans and Special Disabled Veterans. Veterans are interviewed to assess needs, disseminate information about employment and training programs, and facilitate Veteran access to all workforce development programs and services.

Advisors also advocate for Veterans employment and training opportunities with business, industry, and community-based organizations, outreach employers to facilitate Veteran hiring. Telework is decided by the division and contingent on performance; it may be terminated at any time without notice.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conducts a comprehensive assessment of training needs, education, experience, skills, interests, and other relevant data to deliver the appropriate level of services and assist Veterans with barriers to employment.
  • Uses a case‑management approach to develop, document, and maintain case management records using an online case management system.
  • Counsels and encourages Veterans throughout their reemployment process.
  • Outreaches Veterans and community‑based organizations, employers, labor unions, Veteran service organizations, and other service providers to promote Veteran employment goals.
  • May refer and job‑develop Veterans to employment opportunities based on qualifications consistent with employer requirements.
  • Conducts and participates in workshops that assist Veterans in job‑search activities, including resume writing and interviewing.
  • Conducts outreach to employers and other service providers to promote Veterans employment goals and assist Veterans in gaining employment.
  • Facilitates Veterans employment by coordinating and collaborating with Workforce partners, including Business Service Units, to ensure optimum employment opportunities.
  • Reviews and analyzes Veteran qualifications to ensure they meet employer job requirements.
  • May make presentations to groups.
  • May enter and retrieve information to and from computer systems (, Salesforce, etc.).
  • General personal computer, Microsoft Windows, and Microsoft Office experience preferred.

Work hours other than 8‑5 may be required.

Qualifications
  • Minimum Education:

    Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in social work/social sciences, business, human resources, or a related field. Experience may substitute for education on a year‑by‑year basis. College transcripts required before an interview; preferred to be attached.
  • Minimum Experience:

    Two (2) years of experience in interviewing, assessment, job placement, retention, and counseling work of Veterans and other eligible job seekers.
  • Applicants must be a Veteran who served on active duty for more than 180 days and was discharged or released with honorable, under‑honorable, or general (under‑honorable) conditions; or a Veteran discharged or released from active duty because of a service‑connected disability.
  • Additional Requirements:

    A valid Texas Driver’s License must be provided within 90 days of hire.
