Position Summary
Mi Familia & Summit Home Health and Hospice is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Medical Records Clerk to support the accurate management, maintenance, and processing of patient medical records. The successful candidate will help ensure that patient documentation is properly organized, updated, accessible to authorized personnel, and maintained in accordance with established healthcare documentation and confidentiality requirements.
The Medical Records Clerk will work closely with clinical and administrative teams to process documentation, maintain accurate records, identify missing or incomplete information, and support an efficient medical-records workflow. The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong attention to detail, discretion, organizational skills, and the ability to manage confidential information professionally.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain and organize electronic and paper-based patient medical records.
- Scan, upload, index, file, and accurately maintain patient documentation.
- Review records for completeness, accuracy, and proper organization.
- Enter and update patient information in electronic medical record systems.
- Process incoming and outgoing medical documentation in a timely manner.
- Retrieve records and documentation for authorized personnel in accordance with company procedures.
- Identify missing, incomplete, or inconsistent documentation and communicate with the appropriate team members for resolution.
- Maintain accurate filing and document-tracking systems.
- Assist with record preparation for internal reviews, audits, and compliance activities.
- Handle patient information with a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.
- Follow established procedures for records retention, documentation, and secure information handling.
- Provide administrative support to clinical and office staff when needed.
- Maintain an organized workflow while meeting established deadlines.
- Perform other medical-records and administrative duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in medical records, healthcare administration, medical office operations, data entry, or a related field is preferred.
- Familiarity with electronic medical records or electronic health records systems.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information responsibly.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a healthcare team.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard office technology.
- Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a professional healthcare environment.
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
- Experience working in home health, hospice, hospital, physician-office, or another healthcare setting.
- Familiarity with healthcare documentation and medical-records procedures.
- Experience with document scanning, electronic filing, and data entry.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience in medical records, healthcare administration, medical office support, data entry, or a related administrative role is preferred.
- Experience working with electronic medical records (EMR/EHR) systems is preferred.
- Familiarity with basic medical terminology and healthcare documentation is an advantage.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and general office technology.
- Strong computer skills and the ability to learn new electronic recordkeeping and administrative systems.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate and complete records.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet established deadlines.
- Ability to review, organize, file, scan, and maintain patient documentation accurately.
