Job Description

Adolfson & Peterson Construction, one of the nation’s top contractors, is recruiting for an experienced Senior Superintendent. This position manages and controls assigned projects, leading field operations, site safety, productivity, schedule, and work quality while coordinating trade contractors and suppliers. You'll work closely with owners, design teams, and the Project Manager, overseeing multiple complex projects totaling over $50 million.

Responsibilities
  • Take personal responsibility for working safely within an incident and injury free (IIF) culture.
  • Manage on‑site construction activities for projects ranging from small scale to large and complex.
  • Understand all plans, specifications, and details; maintain an updated set of construction drawings.
  • Procure tools, equipment, and materials; train team members; conduct weekly toolbox talks.
  • Provide information in project start‑up and close‑out meetings.
  • Manage, review, and control all project schedule, cost codes, budgets, and production units.
  • Resolve issues or deficiencies throughout the project life cycle.
  • Ensure trade contractors meet schedules, perform quality work, and maintain positive relationships.
  • Ensure project quality with AP’s quality management programs; create site‑specific quality control plans.
  • Troubleshoot site challenges and create innovative solutions; document all corrections and changes.
  • Schedule and conduct inspections with city officials, agencies, and private entities; keep documentation ready.
  • Establish the punch‑list process and close‑out procedures with the Project Manager, owner, and design team before trade work starts; maintain a zero punch‑list.
  • Mentor and train team members.
  • Create site‑specific safety plans; monitor compliance and performance.
  • Implement AP’s safety program to stride for IIF on all projects.
  • Lead on‑site safety meetings and review trade contractors’ safety programs and SDS information.
  • Identify and correct all safety hazards; report incidents to AP safety team.
  • Maintain and post OSHA and Company required safety literature.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with owners and design teams throughout the project.
  • Understand and communicate owners’ goals regarding construction to the field team.
  • Manage assigned group of Superintendents and other team members; coach, mentor, and train.
  • Conduct regular check‑ins; resolve work‑site team issues.
  • Provide input for staffing decisions and develop performance goals and development plans.
  • Collaborate with other departments during pre‑construction, planning, and throughout the project life cycle.
  • Provide technical expertise and participate in constructability reviews.
  • Create project schedules, quantity take‑offs, material selections, and pricing estimates.
  • Ensure subcontractors meet all insurance requirements prior to on‑site work.
  • Assist with procurement of future projects and build client loyalty.
  • Participate in marketing efforts, presentations, proposals, and industry organizations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • History of progressively responsible construction leadership with proven results.
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, architecture, engineering, or related field plus 8+ years construction management experience; or high school diploma/equivalent and 12+ years related experience.
  • 2+ years people‑management experience.
  • Strong proficiency with construction management software (Prolog, P6, MS Project, Excel, AutoCAD) and project management software.
  • Solid understanding of building plans, specifications, value engineering, and life‑cycle costing.
  • Proven results in driving safety initiatives and compliance.
  • Current or ability to become current with OSHA 30 and company safety requirements.
  • Physical ability to climb, walk, lift, carry, push, and perform repetitive motions throughout the day.
  • Ability to occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to travel to project sites and accept long‑term out‑of‑town assignments.
  • Willingness to work in various (sometimes extreme) climate conditions.
  • Demonstrated integrity and ethical standards.
  • Preferred: forklift certification and commercial driver’s license.
  • Strong analytical and logical skills with precision on detailed work.
  • Excellent written, oral, and listening skills for communicating with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously under time constraints.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for building lasting relationships.
