Pre-Construction Internship

Texas Sterling Construction is looking for a Pre-Construction Intern to join our team in San Antonio, TX. This opportunity is ideal for a Junior or Senior pursuing a degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related field who is interested in learning more about heavy civil construction and building a career in estimating and pre-construction.

This is not an internship where you'll spend your time watching from the sidelines. You'll work alongside our estimating and pre-construction team and gain hands-on experience with the work that goes into building a project before construction ever begins.

Our goal is to give you real-world experience that helps prepare you for a career after graduation. You'll have the opportunity to learn directly from experienced estimators, understand how heavy civil projects are bid, and develop skills you can carry into a future role in estimating, project engineering, or construction management.

• Assist the estimating team with quantity takeoffs and bid preparation
• Learn how to read and interpret construction plans, drawings, and specifications
• Assist with reviewing bid documents and project requirements
• Help gather and organize subcontractor and supplier pricing
• Support estimators with cost information and bid documentation
• Gain exposure to CAD, BIM, and estimating software used by our team
• Assist with preparing drawings, layouts, reports, and other supporting materials
• Participate in pre-bid meetings and project discussions when appropriate
• Learn how estimators evaluate project scope, quantities, costs, and potential risks
• Work with experienced construction professionals and gain exposure to the full pre-construction process

• Currently a Junior or Senior pursuing a degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related field
• Interest in heavy civil construction, estimating, or pre-construction
• Basic understanding of construction plans and terminology is helpful but not required
• Exposure to AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, Excel, estimating software, or similar programs is a plus - we don't expect you to know everything coming in
• Comfortable working with numbers and learning quantity takeoffs
• Detail-oriented and organized
• Strong communication skills
• Dependable with a strong work ethic
• Eager to ask questions, learn, and take on increasing responsibility
