OverviewThis role helps elevate the public presence of our campuses by assisting with content development, campus storytelling, and statewide communication initiatives.
The Communications Coordinator will collaborate closely with senior communications staff and school leaders to gather stories, produce engaging content, and ensure consistent and accurate messaging across channels. This position is ideal for someone early in their communications career who is eager to learn, visit schools, and grow as a storyteller.
This Texas‑based role requires frequent travel to BASIS Texas campuses—including San Antonio, Austin, Dallas‑Fort Worth, and surrounding regions—to support story collection, photography, interviews, and events. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required for school programs or special events.
Duties & ResponsibilitiesMedia Relations & Story Support
- Assist in identifying and drafting story ideas that highlight student achievements, teacher excellence, and unique campus programs across BASIS Texas Charter Schools.
- Conduct regular campus visits to gather story assets, interview teachers and students, and capture photos or basic video.
- Draft initial versions of press releases, media notes, talking points, and content briefs for review by senior staff.
- Maintain media lists and help coordinate outreach to local education reporters and community outlets.
- Support logistics for media visits, including scheduling, preparing background materials, and on‑site coordination.
- Track local media coverage and compile weekly or monthly reports for the communications team.
Content Creation & Communications Support
- Write and edit content for newsletters, social media, websites, school announcements, and marketing materials.
- Ensure brand consistency and accuracy across all internal and external messaging.
- Support the development of editorial calendars, story pipelines, and recurring communication campaigns.
- Collaborate with designers, photographers, and videographers to organize assets and support multimedia content production.
- Assist with gathering testimonials, quotes, images, and campus highlights for network‑wide and Texas‑specific communications.
Crisis & Reputation Communications Support
- Assist senior communications staff with drafting timely communications for urgent or sensitive matters.
- Help monitor social media sentiment and community feedback to identify potential concerns or opportunities.
- Support the organization and documentation of crisis communications templates and messaging guidance.
Event & Campaign Support
- Attend and assist with BASIS Texas events such as academic competitions, school celebrations, information sessions, and graduations.
- Capture event notes, photos, and visual assets for post‑event communications and social media.
- Support enrollment, community engagement, and marketing campaigns that promote BASIS Texas schools.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Research emerging communication tools, trends, and best practices to strengthen team operations.
- Recommend ideas that support more efficient content workflows, media outreach, and digital engagement.
- Stay informed on public education topics relevant to Texas and charter school communications.
- Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to identify compelling story angles and communicate with a variety of audiences.
- Comfortable conducting interviews with students, parents, teachers, and staff.
- Familiarity with AP style and interest in education or nonprofit communications.
