A Professional Singer enriches the music of our Traditional Services as a soloist, ensemble singer, and member of the Sanctuary Choir. Ultimately, Professional Singer responsibilities, as outlined below, help staff, volunteers, Covenant Partners and attendees experience effective and genuine worship of God when they attend worship
The Professional Singer will be expected to support the ministries of the Church in a spirit of teamwork and offer his or her time, skills, and gifts as they apply to the ongoing welfare, ministry, and edification of the Church.
The Professional Singer is a part-time position that works 5 hours per week and is classified as an exempt position. Hours may be flexible. This position does not qualify for healthcare and retirement savings benefits, but does receive PTO.
MINIMUM SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS- Education (preferred but not required):
Undergraduate study in music or equivalent experience. - Be an excellent musician and singer.
- Maintain a good working attitude (be compatible, friendly, and resourceful working with volunteers/other staff/Minister of Music).
- Desire to serve others and the ability to be a team player.
- Understand the role music plays in the greater church.
- Demonstrated and consistent vocal ability.
- Successful demonstration of choral singing skills through audition.
- Ability to vary weight of tone and vibrato as directed by the Minister of Music
- Strong sight-reading skills.
- Formal vocal training.
- Provide strong musical leadership in rehearsals and worship, while at the same time setting a good example for volunteers.
- Promote choir cohesion through positive interaction with other staff singers and volunteers.
- Sing weekly at all traditional worship services.
- Be present for rehearsals on Wednesday evening and for choral warm-ups prior to worship
- Participate in additional performances and rehearsals as required.
- Based on availability, sing for weddings and funerals if requested
- Other related duties as assigned by the Minister of Music
- At approximately two-year intervals, re-audition and interview for potential renewal of employment. The re-audition process consists of demonstrating good vocal production (consistent with multiple styles of choral music), intonation, and sight-reading, as well as a brief personal interview.
