Position Information

The San Antonio District is seeking a Transportation Landscape Architect Assistant I or II to help shape environmentally responsible and visually impactful landscapes along Texas highways.

In this role, you will support the development of sustainable landscape designs, contribute to project planning and establishment efforts, and assist in managing statewide landscape programs. You’ll work closely with districts, divisions, consultants, and public and private organizations to ensure projects are coordinated, compliant, and thoughtfully executed.

• Transportation Landscape Architect Assistant I (B20): $51,158 - $81,351
• Transportation Landscape Architect Assistant II (B22): $57,614 - $93,138

• Assists districts and divisions on issues concerning landscape architecture and pedestrian accessibility design.
• Assists in coordinating landscape projects with consultants or universities.
• Assists in developing and reviewing plans, specifications, estimates and special provisions pertaining to landscape projects or landscape items as related to roadway projects.
• Contributes to the coordination of landscape plan development with consultants, local and state officials and the public.
• Evaluates new products and methods related to landscape projects.
• Reviews, evaluates and develops requests for public participation in landscape programs.
• Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Bachelor's Degree in Landscape Architecture.

• Transportation Landscape Architect Assistant I:
  None required.
• Transportation Landscape Architect Assistant II: 1 year experience as a landscape architect assistant or equivalent under the oversight of a Registered Landscape Architect, Registered Architect, or Licensed Professional Engineer.

Experience can be satisfied by full-time or prorated part-time equivalent. Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications.

Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

• Landscape and vegetation management design including plans, specifications and estimates.
• Product/method evaluation related to landscape and vegetation management projects.
• Botany, soils, climate and various construction methods.
• Utilities such as water and electrical services.
• Maintaining effective working relationships with others.
• Performing design/drafting work and preparing plans.
• Competitive bid processes, rules and regulations.
• Public relations for maintaining effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both internal and external.
• Analyzing and organizing business and technical data.
• Using computers and applicable programs, applications, and systems.

• Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
• Subject to noise.
• Light work: lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs.
• Sedentary work: lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools.
• Fingering-picking, pinching, typing; working primarily with fingers rather than whole hand.
• Talking-expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words.
• Hearing-perceive sound at normal speaking levels; receive information by oral communication.
• Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and fingers.
• Visual Acuity-determine work quality/make general observations of facilities/structures.

Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions. This is a Safety Impact position and will be subject to random drug testing.
