Associate Medical Director
Role Overview
The Associate Medical Director works closely with the Medical Director and hospital leadership to enhance the programmatic quality, clinical excellence, and integrity of the hospital s rehabilitation services. This physician leader plays a pivotal role in optimizing overall clinical care while maintaining an active inpatient practice.
Key responsibilities include:
- Partnering with the Hospital CEO and leadership team to advance the hospital s position as the inpatient rehabilitation hospital of choice in the service area
- Enhancing patient satisfaction scores to exceed Encompass Health averages and achieve consistent top-tier clinical rankings
- Developing strong referral relationships with specialists and acute care providers to educate them on the benefits and criteria for inpatient rehabilitation
- Serving as a visible, accessible, and approachable physician leader for staff, patients, and families
- Supporting physician engagement, clinical quality initiatives, and interdisciplinary collaboration
Practice Model
The PM&R physician will establish a private practice, including a caseload of medically complex inpatient rehabilitation patients. An outpatient rehabilitation practice may be developed if desired.
- Physician retains 100% of billing and collections
- Independent billing company relationship

Qualifications
- MD or DO with active Texas medical license (or willingness to obtain)
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation
- Strong patient-centered commitment to clinical excellence
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Hospital-based physiatry experience preferred, but not required
- Interest in leadership and community engagement
